Everyone can use some organizing… somewhere. You get a calmer, more organized space, get Holiday ready, or ready to tackle big projects such as a move.
It is common to be asked what things people can start to work on to get ready to make a move. By the way, this is also a good tip for staying in your home.
It’s easier to take things into bite-sized pieces. Eventually, you will be at “mission accomplished!”
My challenge this month, we needed a new bed, which led to new sheets and pillows, bedroom furniture, and cleaning the closet, etc.…you know how that goes, one thing leads to another.
If you are decluttering your home, here’s something you can do today: take a look at your linen closet. Over the years, it’s easy to accumulate numerous bedding sets, sheets, blankets and comforters. Do you still need them all?

Here’s how to decide what to keep and what to let go of:

  • Keep only 2-3 sets of sheets per bed for easy rotation (one on the bed, one in the wash, and one as backup or seasonal option i.e., flannel).
  • Assess the bedding: Are these sheets or blankets still comfortable, in good condition, and used regularly?
  • Ask family members if they want any of the extra bedding or sheets.
  • Donate gently used bedding to local shelters, thrift stores, or charities who like the extras to help someone in need. Pet rescue organizations have a huge need and are very appreciative of the extras.
  • Lastly, repurpose some of them in the garden shed for frost evenings/days when you need something to cover the favorite plants or shrubs.

Decluttering now will free up space and make future moves more manageable.
Your comments and gentle ribbing encouraged. I would like to hear your tips for those areas where you have purged, decluttered etc.
Happy Holidays!
